12 month "well" baby visit

Today the girls had their 12 month visit.  My dad came over and watched Maia this afternoon when I took Lily and Juliette to their appointment so that was a relief that I didn't need to entertain her too!

Lily was down 3 oz from last Friday's Synagis appointment and she was 13 lbs, 9 oz and 26.75".  Juliette was 16 lbs, 3 oz and 27".  They're about the same height but Lily is just much less chubby!  I attribute the weight loss to her cold so hopefully that will go back up soon.  I was chatting with our doctor about how we've been so fortunate that neither girl has had an ear infection yet and then she checked them and lo and behold they both have one now!  Lily has one in her right ear and both of Juliette's ears are infected.  They're both on amoxocillin and I hope it clears up quickly.

They also did the finger prick to check for low iron levels and we got no good news there either.  The number they're looking for is 12 and Lily got a 9.4 and Juliette got a 6.5.  Ouch.  They said that diet change and regular vitamin drops would not be enough with numbers this low so we now have a prescription for some other drops.  Hopefully they work.  I'm puzzled that their iron is so low since they both look healthy and pink to me.  They don't act lethargic or anything so it's confusing to me that they're low.  They'll get a recheck in a month.

We picked a Realtor to sell our house and I hope we can sell quickly and for enough money to leave us with a little bit extra.  Comps in the neighborhood are mostly foreclosures and are selling for cheap so my hopes aren't high but we'll see.  Maybe we'll find another "us" to buy this house!

I forgot to mention but both girls are clapping!  Lily does it better and Juliette looks more like she's wiping her hands but it's still exciting.  Lily also is getting two new teeth according to the doctor.

Happy Birthday Lily and Juliette!

I can't believe this day is here and that my girls are ONE.  I remember a year ago...I had a little bit of bleeding.  We were told to call if I bled at all so I called and they said come on in.  My mom came over to watch Maia and I said, "don't worry, we'll be back soon."  I seriously didn't think for a second that I would be having those babies that day!

Now they're getting so big and doing so much.  We had their Synagis appointment last Friday and Lily weighed 13 lbs, 12.5 oz and Juliette was 16 lbs, 1.5 oz.  They're both pulling up on anything and everything.  They can usually get down from whatever they pull themselves up to.  Just a couple of days ago Lily mastered getting down the step from our living room to our dining room which is a relief for me.  They're good eaters (mostly) and they're overall such happy babies.  We're not out of the woods yet as far as delays in speech/cognitive abilities but right now they're both doing so well that I'm not that worried about it.

Lily is sick right now (another cold) and Juliette is working on it.  Ben's mom is in town to celebrate their birthday and we had a little birthday party with family on Sunday.  I think that we'll throw another bash for their adjusted year birthday in June!

It's been nice out the last week and we've been getting outside and going for walks a lot.  The girls enjoy it (especially Maia) and I love getting the exercise.

We're still set to close on our new house on Friday.  It might not happen that day (we'll know for sure tomorrow) but it's very exciting!  We had a real estate agent come over last night to talk about selling our current house.  We know we won't get anywhere close to what we put into it but we hope we don't just break even.  It's a tough market, especially in Brooklyn Center but the agent really liked our house and thinks we can do okay.  We meet with one more agent on Thursday before we decide who we'll go with and then hopefully next week we can start moving stuff over to declutter this place to get ready for showings.  We'll also have a stager come through and make suggestions.  Here comes a new red front door.

Nice weather

The last few days have been just beautiful outside so we've been breaking out the big stroller and going for afternoon walks.  Even though there is a place for Maia to ride if she gets tired, she much prefers to walk.  This causes us to go REALLY slow but she really loves the fresh air and I appreciate the exercise.  Lily and Juliette handle themselves pretty well too but if we go too long they start to freak out a little bit.

Not too much new on the house front.  They finally opened up the garage and we did our inspection.  The mold inspection came back fine and in the regular inspection they found that the heater was short-cycling (turns out the filter was clogged and the thermostat was broken), the whirlpool tub had a leaking jet, and the garage had a broken spring.  Some of the other things they found were just minor but all the minor things are starting to add up.  Regardless, we went ahead and okayed everything (the radon test was well within the normal range as well) so it looks like we'll be purchasing a house in a couple of weeks.  Exciting!  I also contacted a couple of Realtors nearby to get their take on our house.  I want to be in control this time and pick someone instead of being forced into a relationship like we were with the house we're purchasing now.  I think we've got a couple of good people to interview though so I'm looking forward to it a little bit.  We meet with the first one on Monday night.

Ben's mom is coming into town tomorrow.  The girls will be excited to see Grandma and she's excited to be there for their FIRST birthday!  I can't believe my babies are almost one.

Ben will be home in a few minutes and I think we're doing nachos tonight.  I'm off to get the ground beef started!

So excited, welcome James Ezekiel!

We're very excited today because my sister-in-law Kathryn gave birth this morning!  James Ezekiel Peterson was 9 lbs, 11 oz and 21 1/2" long.  She was 41 weeks today so he came at the perfect time.  My mom just got home from vacation and today is also my parent's anniversary so that makes it extra special.  We didn't know what she was having so it will be so exciting to have a BOY in our family.  Congratulations Ron and Kathryn and Annabelle, we love you!

House news: They have decided to give us access to the garage for the inspection and appraisal.  They still are not moving our closing date back so hopefully we can get these things done quickly so that we can get our financing ready on time.  I'm getting really excited and am anxious to pack.  We have a lot of work to do on the house before we move in but I am also ready to declutter and get this house looking nice too.  I need some solid baby-free time!

The girls seem to be feeling somewhat better today, thank goodness.  They haven't been up every hour, only every 1.5 hours so that's progress!  Maybe I can actually sleep in my bed for more than 10 minutes tonight.  It was nice though to have some downtime this evening to just veg and watch some Idol.  I would love to go see baby James but the family is still sick enough that I wouldn't want to risk it.

Slacker

I know I have been slacking writing on this blog lately and I'm kicking myself because there is a lot going on and this blog will be how I remember. Anyway...

Reflections - I just realized the other day that a year ago I was stuck inside the hospital for weeks on bedrest. It seems like a lifetime ago - I miss the hours of having nothing to do sometimes! Also, tomorrow is Lily and Juliette's adjusted 9 month birthday! Time sure does fly.

Milestones - the girls ate pulling up on everything and cruising. They're unable to stand on their own yet but they're getting closer every day! The crib mattresses have been lowered and they aren't quite sure how to get down yet when they stand but that'll come. We have a big step from our living room into our back room and Juliette had mastered getting up and down it. Lily can get up but not down. Both girls have 4 teeth poking through. Two bottoms, Juliette has her top 2 middle and Lily has her top left middle and her right lateral incisor.

House update - we are at a bit of a standstill. The previous owners left some of their stuff in the garage (4 mattresses, a lawn mower, and a broken computer monitor) and because of that the bank/agent realized that they were supposed to isolate it to give owners a chance to reclaim. They now have deadbolted the garage not letting us in there to do our inspection/appraisal until March 16. Our inspection period ends Monday and even though we received a verbal extension, we haven't received an extension on our closing date. Assuming we are able to do the inspection and appraisal on the 16th we still won't have time to get our financing in order (we are doing an FHA rehab loan). We are waiting to hear about an adjusted closing date after our agents appeal to the bank so we are keeping our fingers crossed. If not we might have to just walk away. I'd be really sad!

Life - we are all sick. Runny noses, coughs and general miserableness abounds. Nobody is sleeping well, especially Lily. The only way she can sleep well lately is in her carseat and Ben has had to drive her around in the middle of the night for the past 3 nights. Not fun! Aside from that, we went out to a restaurant as a family (without anyone else to help!) fir the first time this week and it went great. Lily enjoyed the Famous Dave's Wilbur beans, corn and cornbread. Juliette slept. We had a couple of playdates and took the kids to the Como zoo today. The zoo was fun except for the leaving part. Maia had a complete meltdown all the way home and I'm not even sure she had any idea why after awhile!

Tomorrow we are going to lunch at Little T's with the Solts and the Reiches so even though it's right at Maia's nap time I hope we will be ok! Tomorrow afternoon we are going to the new house with our contractor (and friend) Jerry and his family then taking them all to Davanni's for dinner. Busy day!

Oh and Lily is back to nursing like a champion thank goodness! That makes me so happy.
